Wednesday: "The Battle Within"

Most of us are familiar with the struggles that come from outside. Difficult people, hard circumstances, an unpredictable world. But some of the fiercest battles we face are the ones happening inside us. There is a real tension in the life of every believer between what the Spirit desires and what the flesh craves. The flesh pulls toward comfort, control, and self-sufficiency. The Spirit pulls toward surrender, trust, and dependence on God. These two are not at peace with each other, and that friction is not a sign that your faith is broken. It is a sign that your faith is alive. Here is the encouraging part. The Spirit is not losing this battle. It is the Holy Spirit who disrupts the desires of the flesh, not the other way around. The very fact that you feel that tension, that something in you resists the easy, self-centered path, is evidence that the Spirit is at work in you. You do not have to win this battle through willpower. You are invited to yield. To stop fighting for control and start trusting the One who is already at work within you. The Holy Spirit is not a distant force. He is present, active, and on your side. Let that be your encouragement today. You are not alone in the fight.

Where in your life are you trying to win an internal battle through your own strength rather than surrendering it to the Holy Spirit?

Holy Spirit, I surrender the battles I have been trying to fight on my own. Work in me today, and let Your desires become my desires. Amen.
