Tuesday: "Looking in the Right Direction"

We spend a lot of energy searching for peace in places that cannot hold it. A better job, a healthier relationship, a quieter season of life. We tell ourselves that once things settle down, we will finally feel at rest. But things rarely settle down the way we hope, and the peace we were chasing seems to move just out of reach. Jesus understood this tendency in us. He knew His disciples were looking to Him as a political deliverer, someone who would fix the external circumstances of their world. What He offered them was something far more durable. He offered them Himself. Peace is not a feeling that arrives when life cooperates. It is a person. And that person is Jesus Christ. This is not a poetic idea. It is a practical reality. When we anchor our expectations in Him rather than in our circumstances, we stop being tossed around every time life shifts. This does not mean we ignore our problems or pretend everything is fine. It means we bring our problems to the One who is already standing on the other side of them. He has overcome. That changes where we look when we are struggling. Today, take an honest look at where you have been searching for peace. Then turn your eyes toward Jesus. He is not just the source of peace. He is peace.
