FRIDAY: "Be What You Already Are"

Here is something remarkable: if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God has already declared you to be light. You are already salt. Not someday, not once you get it all together, but right now, because of what Christ has done in you. That is your identity. But identity and impact are two different things. You cannot stop being light, but you can be dim. You cannot stop being salt, but you can be flavorless. The call to holiness is not a call to earn something you do not have. It is a call to live in a way that matches who you already are in Him. This is both freeing and challenging. Freeing because the pressure is off. You are not trying to become something. You are simply being called to walk in what is already true. Challenging because it means there are no excuses. God has given you His Spirit to make this possible. He has given you His Word to guide you. He has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. Wherever you are today, in your home, your workplace, your neighborhood, you are there as light. The question is whether you are shining. Live up to who you are. God has made you able, and He is with you every step of the way.

In the specific places and relationships God has placed you in right now, are you living as the light and salt He has already made you to be?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, help me to live in a way that reflects who You have made me to be in Christ. Where I have been dim or flavorless, renew me. Let my life shine in a way that points people to You.
