Tuesday: "The Danger of a Divided Heart"

Devotional
Imagine trying to be loyal to two different bosses who want completely opposite things. It does not work. Eventually, you have to choose. That was the problem in Zephaniah's day. People were worshiping the Lord on one side and bowing to false gods on the other. They thought they could have it both ways. They could not. We might not bow to carved idols, but divided hearts are still very much a modern problem. We give God our Sunday mornings and our social media bios, but we give the world our ambitions, our finances, our relationships, and our time. We want the comfort of faith without the cost of full surrender. God does not want a portion of your life. He wants all of it, and not because He is demanding, but because He knows that a divided heart is an anxious, restless, unfulfilled heart. Full devotion is not a burden. It is actually the path to peace. You do not have to have it all figured out today. But you can take an honest look at where your heart is divided and bring that honestly before God. He is patient, and He is faithful to complete what He begins in you.
Bible Verse
“I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal and the name of the idolatrous priests along with the priests, those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens, those who bow down and swear to the Lord and yet swear by Milcom,”' - Zephaniah 1:4-5
Reflection Question
What area of your life are you most tempted to keep separate from God's influence, and what might that reveal about where your true trust lies?
Quote
I sacrifice my kid over here, but then I walk over to the Lord over here.
Prayer
Father, reveal the places in my heart where I have been divided in my devotion. Give me the courage to surrender those areas fully to You. Amen.
