Thursday: "Strengthen Yourself in the Lord"

Devotional

There are moments in life when everything falls apart at once. David experienced one of those moments in 1 Samuel 30. His city had been burned, his family taken, and his own men were talking about stoning him. He had no one to turn to. So he turned to God. Scripture says David strengthened himself in the Lord His God. He did not wait for someone to encourage him. He did not wait for circumstances to improve. He went directly to the source of his strength and drew from it. This is the third critical choice we face in seasons of struggle: actively leaning into God through prayer, through His Word, and through total dependence on Him. Not passive waiting, but intentional pursuit. When you are running on empty, the answer is not to push harder on your own. It is to stop, get honest with God, and let Him refill what has been drained. His Word is not just information. It is sustenance. His presence is not just comfort. It is power. You do not have to manufacture strength you do not have. You just have to go to the One who has an endless supply of it.

Bible Verse

"But David strengthened himself in the Lord His God." - 1 Samuel 30:6

Reflection Question

When you are at your lowest, what is your first instinct, and how might intentionally turning to God change the outcome?

Quote

"By the grace of God, I cast myself in dependence upon Him."

Prayer

Lord, when I am depleted, remind me to run to You first. Be my strength when I have none left of my own.
