Tuesday 7/28: Speak Up, Not Out

Micah lived in a time when the popular thing to do was to tell people what they wanted to hear. The false prophets of his day shaped their messages around money and approval. If you paid them, they preached peace. If you did not, they preached doom. Their words were for sale. Micah was different. Filled with the Spirit of God, He spoke truth even when it was uncomfortable. He did not shrink back. But here is what is worth noticing. He did not deliver his message with arrogance either. He spoke with boldness and with a grieving heart. He cared about the people he was speaking to, even as he told them hard things. That combination is rare and powerful. Boldness without arrogance. Truth without cruelty. Courage without pride. Many of us stay quiet because we are afraid of what people will think. We water down what we believe to avoid conflict. But God has not called us to shrink back. He has called us to speak His truth with confidence, trusting that His Word is sure and steadfast. You do not have to be loud or aggressive to be bold. You just have to be willing. Willing to say the true thing, in the right Spirit, at the right moment. That is the kind of courage God honors.

Is there a situation in your life right now where fear of disapproval is keeping you from speaking the truth in love?

Prayer

Father, fill me with Your Spirit and give me the courage to speak truth with both boldness and compassion. Help me to care more about Your approval than the approval of others. Amen.
