Monday: "When God's Answer Isn't What You Expected"

Devotional

Have you ever cried out to God and received an answer that left you with more questions than peace? That was Habakkuk's reality. He looked around at the violence and injustice in his nation and asked God, honestly and desperately, why He wasn't doing anything about it. God's answer was stunning. He was going to use the Babylonians, a nation far more wicked than Judah, to bring justice. It made no sense to Habakkuk. It might not make sense to you either when God's plan looks nothing like what you prayed for. But here is what Habakkuk did not do. He did not walk away. He did not shut down. He brought his confusion back to God and waited for an answer. That kind of honest, persistent faith is exactly what God honors. You are allowed to wrestle with God. You are allowed to say, 'I don't understand this.' What matters is that you stay in the conversation. Habakkuk's willingness to keep seeking God, even when the answers were hard, set the stage for one of the most powerful declarations of faith in all of Scripture. God is not intimidated by your questions. He is big enough to handle your doubt, your frustration, and your confusion. Keep bringing it to Him.

Bible Verse

'O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you Violence! and you will not save?' - Habakkuk 1:2

Reflection Question

Is there an area of your life where God's answer has confused or disappointed you, and how are you responding to that confusion?

Quote

'Habakkuk was concerned about injustice. He was concerned about the state of his nation, Judah.'

Prayer

Lord, when Your answers don't make sense to me, give me the courage to keep seeking You rather than pulling away. Help me trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. Amen.
