Friday: The Standard You Choose

Jesus made it uncomfortably clear. The standard you use for others is the standard that will be used for you. Matthew 6:14-15 does not leave much room for negotiation. If you forgive, you will be forgiven. If you do not, you will not be. This is not God being harsh. It is God being honest. A person who has truly received forgiveness cannot hold it back from others indefinitely and still claim to understand what they received. Forgiveness is not always easy. Some wounds are deep. Some people have not even asked for it. But forgiveness is not primarily about the other person. It is about you choosing to live free rather than staying locked in a prison of bitterness. All five days of this week have been building toward this. God is real and He is present. He wants your heart, not just your performance. He has cast your sin into the sea. His compassion is greater than His judgment. And now He asks you to live that out with the people around you. This is how His kingdom is built. Not through perfect people, but through forgiven people who keep forgiving. You are one of them. Go live like it.

"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." - Matthew 6:14-15

Is there someone you have been withholding forgiveness from, and how might releasing that change both of you?

Prayer

Father, give me the courage to forgive the way You have forgiven me. Let Your kingdom be built through my willingness to extend grace even when it is hard. Amen.
