Monday: "When Honest Questions Meet a Listening God"

Devotional

Have you ever felt like your prayers were bouncing off the ceiling? Like you were crying out to God and getting nothing but silence in return? You are not alone, and you are in good company. Habakkuk opened his conversation with God in a way that might make us uncomfortable. He was blunt, raw, and desperate. He looked at the violence and injustice around him and asked God directly why He seemed to be doing nothing about it. There was no polished religious language. Just a broken heart speaking honestly. Here is what is remarkable: God did not rebuke Him. He answered him. That tells us something profound about the kind of relationship God invites us into. He is not fragile. He is not offended by your honest questions. He is big enough to handle your doubt, your frustration, and your grief. In fact, bringing those things to Him is an act of faith, not a failure of it. If you are carrying something heavy right now, something that makes you wonder where God is, take heart. The very act of crying out to Him means you still believe He is there. That is faith. Bring your real questions to a real God, and trust that He is listening.

Bible Verse

"O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you 'Violence!' and you will not save?" - Habakkuk 1:2

Reflection Question

What honest question have you been afraid to bring to God, and what might it look like to finally voice it to Him today?

Quote

"It is clearly an anguish cry from a man who loved justice. He had seen justice perverted, had cried out to God against evil."

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You welcome our honest cries and are not put off by our doubts. Give us the courage to bring our real questions to You, trusting that You hear every word. Amen
