Monday: The Shepherd Who Knows Your Name

There is something deeply personal about the way Psalm 23 begins. David does not say "a shepherd" or "my helper." He says, "The Lord is my shepherd." That word Lord, written in all capitals in your Bible, is God's personal name. Yahweh. It means I am who I am. He is not a distant, impersonal force. He is a God who knows you by name. Yahweh is completely self-sufficient. He needs nothing from anyone. He has all wisdom, all power, and all authority within Himself. And yet, this same God chooses to be your shepherd. He chooses to be personally involved in your life, your struggles, and your story. That truth alone should stop you in your tracks. The God who needs nothing has chosen to give you everything you need. Not everything you want, but everything you truly need. His promise is not one of wealth or a trouble-free life. It is a promise of provision rooted in relationship. If you have placed your trust in Jesus Christ, this psalm is your inheritance. Every word of it belongs to you. But it all starts with one decision: making the Lord your shepherd.

In what areas of your life are you trusting in your own strength rather than leaning on the Shepherd who already has everything you need?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being a personal God who chooses to shepherd me. Help me to trust that You will supply everything I truly need, and remind me today that my relationship with You is the greatest provision of all. Amen.
