MONDAY: "Stop Majoring in the Minor Things

It is easy to stay busy with religion while missing what God actually cares about most. The Pharisees were experts at this. They were meticulous, disciplined, and outwardly devoted. But Jesus looked at them and said they had missed the point entirely. They were so focused on the small stuff that justice, mercy, and faithfulness had fallen by the wayside. This is not just a first-century problem. We can fill our schedules with church activities, know the right answers, and still be living in a way that does not reflect what God says matters most. Jesus is not asking us to abandon the details of our faith. He is asking us to make sure we have the main things right first. Justice, mercy, and faithfulness are not abstract ideals. They are daily choices. They show up in how we treat people, how we respond to those who are hurting, and whether our private lives match our public words. God is not impressed by a polished exterior. He wants something real. Here is the encouraging part: God does not leave us to figure this out on our own. He has shown us clearly in Scripture what He values, and He gives us His Spirit to help us live it out. We just have to be willing to look, listen, and respond.

Where in your daily life might you be focused on the minor things while quietly neglecting what God says matters most?

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to see what You truly value and give me the courage to make those things my priority. Help me not to settle for the appearance of faithfulness when You are calling me to something deeper and more real.
